HAND vs ADC vs MCMD

[edit]

This article should be considered for movement back to HAND as the primary title. HAND covers all HIV-associated cognitive disorders, not just HAD, which is distinct, for example, from Mild Cognitive Motor Disorder (MCMD), whereas ADC is more restricted to HAD. In addition, HIV encephalitis is a distinct pathological correlate that no longer seems to be consistently present in the post-HAART era. CrazyPaco (talk) 04:57, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I couldn't agree more. Keepcalmandcarryon (talk) 21:35, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Cognitive effects of HIV should be merged into HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder

[edit]

Cognitive effects of HIV is an orphan: no other articles have links to it. In my opinion, it is about the exact same thing as HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder. For this reason, i believe that Cognitive effects of HIV should be blanked and redirected to HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder, with its contents merged into HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder.Spidersmilk (talk) 17:05, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that a merge is in order, but suggest the reverse direction on the grounds that Cognitive effects of HIV is the broader topic, as it includes a discussion of cognitive impairments that don't reach the DSM diagnostic criteria. The HIV-associated neurocognitive disorder can and should remain as a distinct section. That the 'cognitive effects' page is current (almost) an orphan is irrelevant, as it certainly wouldn't be an orphan with the redirect; page history doesn't necessarily dictate the best option for the future. On reflection, and looking closely at completing the merge, I note that IV-associated neurocognitive disorder is the relevant ICD10 and MESH term, and the clinical definition covers most of the effects described in Cognitive effects of HIV. So, now agree with merge as initially proposed. Klbrain (talk) 10:08, 13 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
